FAQ & Return Policy

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

  • Are alpacas easy to take care of?
Short answer, is yes! They are generally easy to care for compared to some other livestock. Gordon grew up                           owning horses, cows, and pigs. Gordon thinks alpacas are much easier to take care of compared to those                             livestock.  However, we cannot compare owning sheep versus alpacas as we have never owned sheep!
  • What do alpacas eat?
Alpacas eat mainly hay and grain. If you live in a warmer climate, they would mostly eat grass. We use grain as an               added supplement to their main diet of hay for the added nutrients. They also love a bonus treat of apples and                   carrots as well!
  • How many alpacas do you own?
          Currently, we own 10 alpacas!
  • Do you process all of your own fiber?
No, we do not process our own fiber. We utilize mills across the United States to process all of our own fiber and                 any fiber that we collect from other New England alpaca farmers.
  • Where do you get your product from?
We get our product from various places all over the United States primarily. For example, we get our socks from a              mill in PA and our dryer balls from a mill in NY. Generally, we will send these mills fiber to utilize to make our                        products. We also work closely with a village in Peru to import certain products. Alpacas are their livelihood and                when the U.S. imported the alpacas back in the 1980's, importing their product is part of the exchange.
  • Do you have a store on your property?
We do not have a store on our property. Please check out our events page to find us there! Another great option is             our retail shop located at The Ridge Marketplace in Rochester, NH!
  • How do I take care of my alpaca product?
Taking care of your alpaca product is really easy. For things like hats, gloves, scarves, and blankets you can wash a               few different ways. The first way is by putting it in a laundry bag, putting it in the washing machine on cold water             with a mild detergent. Please do NOT use woolite as that has chemicals in it that are meant to wash wool                             products. The next way is to hand wash it, using cold water and hair shampoo and conditioner. No matter which               way you decide to wash your alpaca product, please air dry it by laying flat or hanging up. You can put it in the                   dryer on air dry or tumble but do NOT use heat.
If you are washing something like a stuffed animal, spot clean it. This can be done by taking a face cloth and                       getting it wet with cold water and use a small amount of hair shampoo. Dab the area until it is saturated and                     then rinse with a face cloth using just water. Comb it out gently and let it air dry.
  • I want to own alpacas, where do I get started?
We always start by saying that research is free. Please start by researching owning and caring for alpacas. Some                great places to start looking is AOA (Alpacas Owners Association) and NEAOBA (New England Alpacas Owners                  and Breeders Association) for more information and to find alpaca farmers near you. We also recommend going                to fiber shows and alpaca shows to talk to farmers in person, and then we recommend visiting local farms to see                what it is like to own a herd of your own. If you are interested in speaking with us directly about owning alpacas,                please use our contact form page to contact us directly. We have more information about this on our Alpacas tab              above!
  • Why should I own alpaca product?
Owning alpaca product is lovely, to start it is hypoallergenic. It does not have any lanolin in it that sheep produce              in their fiber. Alpaca fiber is also 4 times warmer than wool as well as being just as soft as cashmere. Alpaca is also            fire and water resistant. It is also a hallow fiber, meaning it has air pockets in it, making it extremely light weight                while keeping you very warm. It is also a sustainable fiber meaning they are not killed for their fiber and it is                        decomposable. As long as you care for your alpaca product properly, it can last for generations to come!
